Our 3-tier Strategy for Weed Control
Overgrown weeds are the number one complaint we hear from property management companies and commercial business owners. Special licensing is required to apply chemical weed controls, and most landscape companies do not offer it. They must rely on mechanically removing weeds.
At Trimmers, we use a 3-tier strategy that is most friendly on the environment and has lasting results.
- Mechanical Removal – the first wave of attack is always to mechanically remove as much weed growth as possible. Timing is critical in this step. Once weeds have gone to seed, there are now tens of thousands of seeds ready to sprout again in the spring. Examples of mechanical removal might be hand-pulling weeds in shrub beds or scraping parking lot curbing.
- Pre-emergent – we can apply a pre-emergent weed control that kills weed seeds before they germinate in the planting beds. The ideal time to do this is during our spring cleanups just before mulching. Pre-emergent weed control can reduce weed growth as much as 50%.
- Post-emergent – periodic foliar applications of Post-Emergent Weed Control throughout the season will keep weeds at bay from walkway cracks, curbing and planting beds. This final step assures a neat, manicured look for your business.
